Burn Notice Continues to Heat Up in Season 3

The thing I like most about Burn Notice (aside from Bruce Campbell and the tongue in cheek humor of course) is the way the main character, Michael, "teaches" the audience how he does his super cool spy things via voiceover.

In my book it's always good to be educated while being entertained. Why not kill two birds with one stone? Burn Notice is another show in the live of USA Networks "characters first" dramas that really started with Monk and then Psych, which I have to say I'm not a huge fan of.

But USA is on to something with this attention to making interesting characters, even though production values tend to be quite low, especially on Monk. Watch an episode of Burn Notice below. This one is season 3, episode 7: Shot in the Dark.

Is American Idol Rigged?

Is the hugely popular "reality" competition show American Idol rigged? Could it be possible that all those votes you send in (and pay for) via text message don't really count?

Would that piss you off? Maybe it would, maybe it wouldn't? Maybe you just don't care about American Idol?

According to an ex-idol contestant, American Idol is rigged and fans and the audience don't choose who wins the competition--producers do with an eye for ratings.

Is this just a publicity ploy to keep Ju'Not Joyner in the spotlight, or is there some validity to this rumor. I really would not be surprised if this was the case because at the end of the day, the show is about profits. But this doesn't mean that the show isn't damn entertaining!

Can't Wait for Mad Men Season 3

The stories, the dialogue, the tongue in cheek sexism. Gotta love Mad Men. It's my favorite show and probably the most intelligently made show on the air right now.

Mad Men Season 3 is just around the corner. The show starts August 16th at 10pm, at least where I'm located. I recommend it. Watch it, tivo it, live it, learn it, know it.

Robert Downey Jr. has had a pretty amazing resurgence in Hollywood. Since IronMan was a huge success and a really good, fun movie, Downy Jr. can probably choose any role he wants.

When I first noticed this video on youtube, I thought this was just another hammy baseball lover who had some boring little baseball schtick that he turned into a four minutes of internet celebrity. And I was proved correct when I started watching the video.

Dirty Sexy Money Returns with "The Facts"

It is well-known by now that Dirty Sexy Money, which was one of the shows that I always told my girlfriend I couldn't stand but secretly loved, has been cancelled and will not return for a third season. Dirty Sexy Money was canceled after two thirds of its second season rolled out.

But there are still four more episodes of the show, which is a chronicling of a wealthy New York family. The first episode is called "The Facts." There will be two more episodes during the coveted Saturday night at 10pm time slot leading up to the series finale on August 8th.

Watch Castle Episode Online - Season 1, Episode 10

Even though the creators of Castle totally bit Californication's antagonistic character Hank Moody played by David Duchovny, I still like the show. Admittedly, Castle is quite different from the Showtime hit, but still there are quite a few similarities in the main characters.

The basic premise of Castle is that the guy is a famous novelist who helps the police solve crimes. Now that I just wrote this sentence, I can see that the show has more in common with Murder She Wrote than Californication.

The first season of Castle has come to a close, but you can still watch episodes online in streaming video right from your computer. If you like police type shows and too-clever witty banter (there's a lot of it here), you will enjoy this show. It's a fun watch.

In this episode, "Castle and Beckett investigate the brutal murder of a plastic surgeon." It gets interesting once you peel back the layers on this mystery.

I have never been able to figure out how to solve a Rubik's Cube. When Hungarian sculptor professor of architecture Ernő Rubik invented his "Magic Cube," I wonder if he ever imagines it would gain legions of fans over the years and maintain popularity for decades to come.

350 million cubes have been sold and it is widely regarded as the most popular puzzle game in history. I just thought it was a colorful piece of plastic I could throw at my younger brother while he was sleeping. Shows you what I know.

Jorja Fox Returns to CSI

Jorja Fox and William Peterson both left CSI: Crime Scene Investigation a year ago.  But even at that time, Jorja Fox was making reappearance after leaving the hugely popular crime procedural show in its eighth season, two years prior.  

Now, Fox will return to CSI to reprise her role of Sara Sidle.

Futurama Returns - But with New Voice Actors

Futurama is a brilliantly subversive animated tv show created by some of the same people who created the Simpsons.  I was pleasantly surprised when I read recently that Futurama will be returning to television with brand new episodes.

However, the Fox produced series which will be shown on Comedy Central, will have new voice talent for the characters in the show.  This should be okay and not a big issue for new watchers of the show, but for fans of the original seasons, it will be difficult to get around it as the voices of Billy West and Katey Segal were perfect for their respective characters.

Bittersweet news, but at least Futurama will be coming back and this is something to be happy about.

HBO's Hung Review

Hung is an interesting show about a middle-aged man trying to provide for his children and find himself.  He becomes a gigolo as a means to support himself.

I really enjoyed the show and I will probably watch the rest of the season, but I felt it was lacking something.  The review of Hung addressed some of my thoughts.  So enjoy.

Giant Squid Wash Up on California Beaches after Earthquake

California beach-goers were surprised to see giant squid wash up in the tide on the day after an earthquake. Were these beached squid there for some reason having to do with the earthquake, or was it just a strange coincidence.

The "Power" of Religion - Crazy Laughing Fits

This has to be one of the weirdest and creepiest videos I've ever seen. It's a video of a sham preacher who induces insane fits of laughter from his audience of worshipers.

See for yourself the "power" of religion. The video is titled "God is Hilarious" and I guess will be released on DVD with other strange things caught on video. I think what we're seeing in this video, and WebTVHub concurs (that's the site where I found this video today), is the power of groupthink and the overwhelming desire to believe in something bigger than one's self--even if this desire manifests itself as a hysterical bout of laughter.

Harry Potter: Half Blood Prince Premieres in London

The sixth (and last?) installment of the Harry Potter film franchise premiered in London and will be released to general theaters July 15. This much-awaited film is sure to be a huge smash blockbuster hit.

Legions of fans the world over will turn out to see Half-Blood Prince, which is based on the last Harry Potter book written by J.K. Rowling--it was also the fastest-selling book from the series that appeals to both young and old.

5 Family Guy Episodes from Season 8

Watch 5 hilarious episodes of Family Guy Season 8. In case you don't know what Family Guy is, I'm going to have my friend come over and hit you on the head with a tack hammer, cuz you are a retard. Just kidding--that last line is from Tommy Boy, the classic film featuring the acting talents of Chris Farley and David Spade. I miss Farley.

You see what happened right there? I went off on a funny tangent, just like they do in Family Guy with flashbacks. Except, I'm sure Family Guy does it a LOT better. Anyway, the show is still going strong and is still as funny as it's ever been.

Evidently, Anderson Cooper got the best of Stephen Colbert and the Colbert Report by getting the news scoop of the year.

Seriously, if this is what Cooper and CNN call news or even entertainment, they should really try harder. I sort of remember that there's something going in Iran...but I could be mistaken.

Jeff Goldblum Not Dead After All

It was truly bizarre when people were reporting that Jeff Golblum had died in New Zealand on a movie set after falling off of a cliff. This came on the same day the deaths of Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson were reported.

Steven Colbert didn't believe that the rumor was false even after Goldblum appeared on his show. Colbert only believed the story was fake after Mr. Goldblum "tweeted" out a message.

Goldblum had something funny to say when he "resurfaced."

Here's what he said: "No one will miss Jeff Goldblum more than me," he said. "He was not only a friend and a mentor, but he was also, um, me. Jeff Goldblum's performances combined the muscularity of Brando, the pathos of Streep and the musky sensuality of a pride of baboons.
