Why True Blood is One of the Best Shows on TV

True Blood on HBO is one of the best shows on tv for a few reasons. It's not because of the blood and the gore.

It's not even really the fact that the show prominently features Vampires and those who love them. It's not even because Anna Paquin, who plays Sookie Stackhouse, has a rockin' bod. I mean, these are both reasons to watch the show, but they are really only part of the appeal of True Blood.

True Blood, created by Alan Ball of Six Feet Under fame, is one of the best shows on tv because you never know what's going to happen next. It is a show that has really interesting story lines and highly engaging characters. It is also a show where one man turns into a dog at inopportune times, where a young woman loves a vampire and consents to being bit by him, and where town locals get high by drinking vampire blood (V Juice or the manufactured True Blood).

You truly never know what is going to happen in the make believe Southern World of Sookie Stackhouse. It is always a thrilling ride and really, really fun.

True Blood Season 2 starts on Sunday, June 14. Watch the preview below for the much awaited sophomore season of this titillating series.

5 Reasons Land of the Lost Starring Will Ferrel will be Amazing

Why Land of the Lost will be the Most Epic Movie of all Time.

Well, that may be overstating things a little bit, but I really think this movie has the potential to be hilarious.

Without further ado, here are the reasons this movie will be kick-butt.

1) Danny McBride. Do I need to say more? In Eastbound and Down, Danny McBride stunned audiences the world over with his casual good looks and his incessant desire to be the best he can be--even if it's only as a small town P.E. instructor. As the completely socially inept and arrogant former MLB athlete, Kenny Powers was probably the funniest tv show character to appear in a few years. You may also remember Will Ferrel's appearances on Eastbound and Down and how well the two comedians work with each other.

2) Will Ferrel. This goes without saying. Will usually gives pretty inspired performances. You're guaranteed at least a couple lines you will hear repeated at parties ad nauseum. So maybe that's actually a bad thing.

3) Matt Lauer jokes. I don't know why, but the whole Matt Lauer joke thing in the previews for this movie cracks me up.

4) Ben Stiller is not in it but Anna Friel is. I'm just kidding--I'm a big Ben Stiller fan--but I know a lot of people who aren't. His second part to Night at the Museum looks very funny. Anna Friel of canceled but great tv show Pushing Daisies also stars in Land of the Lost.

5) Everybody loves a remake. You already sort of know what the movie is about--a guy going back in time and encountering dinosaurs, etc--and you know Will Ferrel and Danny McBride will have some great comedic set-ups.

Update 6/10/09. Looks like I backed the wrong horse here. Land of the Lost pretty much flopped in its opening weekend, pulling in somewhere around $18 million. It got trounced by The Hangover, a movie that Will probably should have starred in. It was directed by Todd Phillips, who directed Old School, which sent Ferrel's fame with young men into the stratosphere.

I heard that the movie (which is rated PG -13) was a little soft in terms of humor and never really asserted what kind of movie it was supposed to be. Darn. At this point, I don't even know if I'll be watching this one on DVD. Looking back, I'm not sure why I ever thought I would like this movie.

My Name is Earl Canceled

In a bold move, NBC has canceled My Name is Earl. Well, maybe it wasn't that bold of a move. The truth is the comedy had seen better days. NBC may be looking forward to the future and hoping to find a younger comedy that will be able to give it Office type ratings, to further back the comedy-strong line-up.

Still, this is somewhat of a surprise. Earl seemed to be doing quite well, but the network probably calculated that as a property, it won't be able to grow much more and had probably reached its saturation point.

Samantha Who has also been canceled as has Fox's Prison Break, which started off so strong and now pretty much just limps along like an old broken down prizefighter that was a champ for the briefest of moments. As soon as the guys broke out of prison for the third or fourth time, it got a little old. And in the latest season, it was looking a little too much like a 24 rip off--and that did not work at all.

Watch Premiere of Glee - New Fox TV Show

The new Fox show, Glee, promises to be a mixture of 90210 and American Idol. I'm talking about the old 90210--not the new rendition of the show, which resembles the classic 90's tv show only in the fact that former stars Shannen Doherty and Jenny Garth pop up every once in a while.

Glee heavily features singing and dancing, an obvious attempt to garner the fans of live competition shows like Dancing with the Stars and American Idol. I don't mean to demean the show at all, it's just plain savvy to go after this audience. People want to see performances on TV. Supply and demand, baby. Marketing 101.

Glee centers on a newly re-established high school glee club, which is where the high school misfits go to express themselves. It doesn't look half bad--and watching the first 10 minutes of the show, complete with a narrator voice over, the writing and engageability (is that a word? probably not) absolutely destroys any of the writing or charm found on WB shows. The show is also conscious of the idiocy of celebrity culture and makes fun of the everybody-can-be-a-star-if-I-get-enough-youtube-views mentality that "new media" fosters. The always hilarious master improviser Karen Allen also stars as a principal or something in Glee.

Enjoy the first episode of Glee.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Movie Info and Trailers

The most highly anticipated summer release of 2009 is the upcoming Michael Bay film Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Starring Shia Laboeuf, Megan Fox, and a few oversized robots, Transformers 2 will undoubtedly be a blockbuster hit. If the success of the first movie (domestically and overseas) is any indication, this movie will bring in close to a billion dollars and entertain millions of people the world over.

In Transformers 2, Sam Witwicki (Laboeuf) goes to college, still maintaining his relationship with the beautiful Mikaela (Fox), and soon gets pulled into a battle for the universe pitting Decepticon forces against his old buddy from the first movie, Optimus Prime, and his crew of metallic warriors.

It sounds a little overblown and unrealistic, but the special effects and overall action of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen make this movie so entertaining and enjoyable that any doubts you have going into the theater are swept away in the first few minutes.

Check out this Transformers 2 fan site, where you can find a ton of information about this upcoming movie.

Transformers is an in your face adrenaline-filled thrill ride, but there is also a great comedy element that comes from the relationship between Sam and Optimus Prime. One of the nice surprises of the first film was the funny scenes between Sam and his father--especially the scene where Sam has to hide Optimus from his father.

Another thing I like about the Transformers franchise is that you get your money's worth. This movie will definitely let you escape from your daily life for a couple hours and enjoy a larger than life story about a young man trying to deal with his first romantic relationship and his college career--not to mention an intergalactic battle involving enormous alien robots.

If you haven't seen any previews of this movie, check out the Transformers 2 trailers and see what all the fuss is about.

Megan Fox stars in Transformers 2 alongside Shia Laboeuf.

Carrie Prejean Pictures are Mild to Say the Least

It's amazing that right when people stop talking about F-list celebrities, nude pictures surface on the internet. It's even more amazing when the images in a supposed "picture scandal" like the one featuring Carrie Prejean, Miss USA runner-up, are just photos of the young woman doing some modeling shirtless but with her back to the camera.

Ridiculous. Just more news for news sake. I guess I'm guilty for even mentioning this lunacy.

Exclusive Clip from Pixar movie Up

Watch this exclusive clip from the upcoming Pixar movie, Up, which looks really good for the entire family.

I saw the trailer for this movie before the Wolverine/X-Men movie and needless to say it was better than the movie I came to see. That movie really sucked.

Enjoy this clip from Up. One thing that Pixar never loses sight of, no matter how technically skilled and cutting edge they are in creating their animations, they never forget that story is the most important part of a movie. They are some of the best storytellers in the business.
