I was watching the Atlanta Falcons game last night and this interesting commercial came on screen. It's a good one for the Droid phones, which will be a major competitor to the iPhone.
Droid phones will run on Android, which is software created by Google, so yes, you can consider this a play by Google into cell phones. Motorola and Verizon are working on Droid phones as we speak.
