Family Guy is a hilarious tv show on the Fox network. In recent years, this show has been gaining in popularity and is now one of the most popular show on tv for one of the most sought after demographics in the country.

But enough of that nonsense--enjoy the show.

Will Mad Men Return without Matthew Weiner? Say it Ain't So.

This can't be true. It would be horrible. The show would be done.

There are reports that Mad Men series creator and showrunner Matthew Weiner may not return to the set of his brilliant show next year.

This can't be true. Apparently, Weiner is asking for $10 million a year--a figure too rich for a Lionsgate show on the AMC cable channel.

According to Nikki Finke, who writes for the LA Weekly, Lionsgate contacted agencies to get a list of possible replacements.

This is just what you call a negotiation. Now that it's being reported on, it gives a little bit of leverage to, well, both parties. It sort of makes Weiner look like he's asking for too much, and it makes Lionsgate look crazy because who would throw away a show like Mad Men.

I am 100% confident Matthew Weiner will be back again next year. This is just a step in the collective bargaining process. It's a game of chess--you move here, I move there. Now where are we?

Weiner has something very special in Mad Men and he really is the heart of the show. It wouldn't be the same without him and he probably wouldn't be the same without it. He'll be back--and with what will probably be a substantial increase in salary--although it won't be $10 million. :)

Testees is a new show created by a South Park writer. It is paired with another irreverent comedy, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Testees (disregard the pun) is a show about a couple of roommates who make a living by testing certain products and medical procedures at a company called Testico. As you might expect, weird things happen to their bodies, and the opportunity for crude jokes arises consistently.

One of the guys gets pregnant in the first episode. This show is weird, but pretty darn funny. If you like South Park and It's Always Sunny, you may like Testees. Watch Testees episodes online.

I got excited just a minute ago because I clicked over to a website from a link that said, Watch The Shield Episodes online.

Unfortunately, there was a blank page staring back at me--not even a clip or two from the Shield, Season 7 on FX.

The Shield will end on November 25. For good. For those of you who missed out on this tv phenomenon and you have time to kill, you can buy all seven seasons and try to get caught up. Or just read this article about The Shield that pretty much sums up the tenor of the show.

Will there be a happy ending? Probably not.

Life on Mars is a new ABC tv show about a present day cop, who gets hit by a car and is sent back to the 1970's. You have to suspend your disbelief if you want to enjoy this show. There's no explicable reason why detective Sam Tyler (Jason O'Mara) has been transported back in time and is still a cop--but really how could there be?

We begin to understand at the end of the first episode that he's there for a reason--something about stopping a certain event from happening that may change certain events in the future. That kind of thing. Michael Imperioli plays the tough guy comrade, Gretchen Mol plays the nice cop who befriends Sam, and Harvey Keitel plays the maniacal and world-weary chief detective. Lisa Bonet also has a role in Life on Mars as Sam's girlfriend.

McCain Finally Makes it to his Letterman Interview

John McCain finally made it to an interview with David Letterman.

Last month, McCain ditched Letterman for an interview with Katie Couric. He told Dave that he was returning to Washington to help fix the economic crisis--but during Letterman, his staff fed in live footage of McCain getting his makeup done in preparation for his talk with Couric.

Letterman did not let McCain off easy and it was a running punchline that gained some considerable news coverage and probably brought in a few more viewers.

Finally, on the 16th of October, McCain returned to Letterman. Watch the video in a post at tvsquad.

According to Jim stars Jim Belushi and Courtney Thorne-Smith. Belushi is a blue collar worker and Thorne-Smith is his wife with a rapacious wit, always ready to call him out on one of his tiny little lies.

The show is pretty much a knock-off of Everybody Loves Raymond, which I guess you could say was a knock-off of the Cosby show, which was a knock-off of...Well, you get the point. Not too many really original ideas in tv sitcoms.

If you like Jim Belushi, then you'll like this show because it pretty much is a continuation of the Jim Belushi persona. There's a movie called Come to Me or something like that with David Duchovny and Mini Driver. Belushi has a role in the movie as a blue-collar dad--it's the same character.

A couple years after he was Bob Sugar in Jerry Maguire and about a decade before he became Gary Unmarried, Jay Mohr starred in a little-seen tv show called "Action."

Mohr portrayed an unscrupulous and successful Hollywood movie producer. The show was canned before the entire first season aired, probably because of its mature humor. But, truthfully, after watching the first two episodes, it seems like Action was a little ahead of its time, albeit a little weird.

It was made in 1998, but has some jokes and ideas that could be used today in Entourage or Californication, two LA-insider themed shows.

Action, which also starred Ileana Douglass and Buddy Hackett, is pretty funny and even after ten years some of the jokes still seem fresh. And at least one joke from the first episode was taken by Ben Stiller and used in Dodge Ball--the "I think I just threw up in my mouth" line.

Nobody is more perfect than Jay Mohr for the role of a back-stabbing superproducer. He has that manic temperament that goes from angry to vulnerable in a few seconds--which makes for some funny and very tender moments. I'm kidding about the tender moments. There aren't any.

Here's a clip from the show. Peter Dragon (Mohr) has just been denied a table at a hot Los Angeles eatery because his latest movie is a flop. He begins to have a meltdown, and his only hope at future success now rests on the shoulders of the young writer whose script he recently bought.

Watch My Own Worst Enemy--New NBC TV Show.

My Own Worst Enemy is a new tv show starring Christian Slater. Slater plays Henry Spivey, a man who has what you might call an existential crisis when he realizes he has a split personality.

His "other" personality is an undercover operative named Edward Albright. At first glance, you might think My Own Worst Enemy is a mixture of Bourne Identity and True Lies. It is sort of.

But add in the mandatory modern day psychoanalysis in the character of his sexy therapist who tries to help him sort through the odd memories he's having. Throw in a tightly written story, some good dialogue delivered by Christian Slater, who pulls off the duo-role and seems to have a great time doing it, and you have something that almost seems new--not the cliched car-chaser you might have thought.

In the world of tv shows, "Enemy" resides somewhere in the neighborhood of 24 and Prison Break, but it's that bigger nicer house on the corner threatening upward mobility--slight retooling and it could be on HBO. Come to think of it, why doesn't HBO (or Showtime for that matter) have a really smart, interesting spy/secret agent drama?

Best lines of the episode:

One of Edward Albright's handlers (yeah, he has handlers who guide him through his missions, it's that type of show) asks him how the mission went. He answers: "Killed it."

One of Henry Spivey's office pals says about a girl, "I would tap that like a mafia phone line." Ridiculous but funny.

David Duchovny checked himself into a rehab facility for sex addiction.

According to this article, Duchovny had become addicted to online porn. Hopefully, he is all better now.

You gotta wonder the effect being on the Californication set has on him. In season two, which started two weeks ago, Hank Moody (Duchovny's character) is trying to hold on to his ex-girlfriend, who he won back on the night of her wedding to another man. So maybe a little family values in the show will help him out.

I've always thought Duchovny was an interesting actor and I hope for the best.

Andy Samberg was always I guy I could do without.

I just never thought he was that funny or added anything particularly special to Saturday Night Live skits. Sure, I was a big fan of the Lazy Sunday Digital Short, but I never saw Samberg do anything that put him in the upper-echelon of tv comedians.

In fact, I used to tell people that a good idea for a reality show would be Andy Samberg and Jason Biggs trapped on a desert island in a fight to the death, with the victor claiming the "longest face, least talent" award.

Now, things have changed. After watching the skit below, I'm all aboard the comic behemoth that is Samberg. This is a short SNL skit called Mark Wahlberg talks to Animals. Samberg hits it out of the park with a dead-on impression of Marky Mark. Watch the skit below.

By now, you probably know that Tina Fey is impersonating Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live and that the governor of Alaska is the brunt of 99 percent of the jokes being told in this country.

The Vice Presidential debate between Governor Palin and Senator Joe Biden didn't help her cause out too much. It just added more fuel to the fire. She gives Tina Fey so much to work with, that Amy Poehler must be getting jealous by this point.

John McCain and the Keating Savings and Loan Scandal Video

The Barack Obama for President Campaign released a video today about John McCain's involvement as one of the "Keating five" in the Savings and Loan scandal 20 years ago.

John McCain was on the receiving end of Charles Keating's political donations to the tune of $122,000.

Senator McCain (along with the other four illustrious Keating 5) tried to deflect government regulation away from Lincoln Savings and Loan, which soon fell, taking the life savings of thousands and thousands of families, and forcing a government bailout of over $100 billion.

Sound familiar? Is it a maverick move to cater to wealthy and fraudulent political contributors stealing from citizens of their own country?

Selma Blair plays a daughter who can't really figure things out in life so she moves back in with her very odd mother and father.

It's the same rinse repeat formula that happened with shows like The Office. The American version of The Office is great, so that worked out well.

Kath and Kim premieres Thursday October 9th on NBC.

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Debuts

The Nokia XpressMusic is the company's answer to the iPhone and T-Mobile's Google Android powered G1.

Or at least that's what people who write about cell phones like to say. Everyone needs a story. The XpressMusic has a touch screen (like an iPhone) and is wi-fi enables. It has a sleek, hip design.

This phone caters to people who like to listen to music with their mobile devices. We will learn more as this phone debuts in London and hopefully soon in the States.

TV Buyers Guide: LCD or Plasma Screen TV?

Some differences between LCD and Plasma TVs to consider when you're buying a tv.

In the past choosing a new television was fairly easy, but things have come a long way with technological innovations complicating choices considerably. There are a number of factors to consider, right down to whether you want an HD Television, or an HD monitor.

A monitor can support broadcast signal input as well as computer input, whilst a television will only support broadcast signal input unless you have some special computer features.

On the other hand, for the monitor to display broadcast input it is necessary for it to have a set-top box connected for the television channels to be selected. Many televisions have this hardware in-built which means all you need is to plug a cable directly into your television without a second thought.



The next thing to think about is whether you want a Plasma screen TV or an LCD TV. Plasma screens offer the thin wall-mounted style of television but at a price – the screen is usually glossy meaning it is very reflective and worse can suffer from something called ghosting where an image leaves a slight trace of itself after it has disappeared.

Plasma TVs can also suffer from burn-in, ruining the screen if a stationary image is left on for too long. However, this is not something that will occur with LCD.

The final matter to consider is which of four formats you want your HD television to be in – 720i, 1080i, 720p, or 1080p. The ‘i’ here stands for an antiquated display mode called interlaced. Much better is ‘p’ which means progressive.

The numbers are the resolution of the screen. The best quality, sometimes known as full HD, is 1080p, although 720p is also pretty good.

These are the main factors to consider when looking at an HD television, so remember to bear these in mind when making a selection. Remember to compare the picture quality between different brands to find the best television on offer.

Sarah Palin's Substance in Question

I ran across a very well-written and informed comment on a website today.

It was written in response to a blog posting about last night's Vice Presidential debate between Senator Joe Biden and Sarah Palin on the NJ Voices website. I am reprinting it here in this post and I hope that the poster jeff82 doesn't mind.

Here it is:

"This is the way Palin began: "I may not answer the question the way you want to hear, but I'll talk straight to the American people and let them know my track record," What nonsense. This was not a debate. Rather it was Palin taking advantage of a format which prevented the moderator from asking follow up questions, something Palin is intellectually incapable of handling.

That turned out to be a significant understatement, cleverly underscored when Gwen Ifill asked Palin: ``Are you interested in defending Senator McCain's health care plan?''

"Well, not much!" Instead, Palin spent much of her time reciting talking points.

She threw the gauntlet down toward the end of the debate by stating that she would not deal with the "media filter" anymore. If she refuses to speak with the media, as she basically has since being announced, then she is clearly hiding something.

She was delivering the newscast and in doing so had meandering answers that did not respond directly to the question, ignored other questions completely, and overplayed her folksy hand. I think it is a show and I think she overplayed it. Call me crazy but I do not want a Vice President who can't answer a question without winking at me and mangling the English language. That may work as a newscaster in Alaska, but it does not play with me. She is created to appeal to a voting segment and little else.

What we needed was a follow up question. That was what the difference between her "debate" and her failed media interviews. It is also why she stated in the debate she would not go through those "filters" anymore. I do not blame her because there is no substance behind the flash. There is no depth behind the wink.

She is not qualified." Thanks again to the person who posted this comment. It sums up last night's debates nicely.

Palin is clearly just a pawn in John McCain's losing game. She's just more of the same rhetoric, dodging of real substantial answers, and game playing trying to reach out to a certain base of voters.

As Barack Obama stated recently, "They think you're stupid."

This Fujistsu phone snaps in half and looks cool doing it. With the release of this new phone design, Fujitsu really separates itself from the pack. The two halves of the phone are connected magnetically and communicate via bluetooth. Watch the video of this cell phone below.

When is AT&T going to do something like this or at least have a phone compatible with its service that can snap in half. Sometimes the service I get from my cell phone company makes me want to snap my phone in half. If I had this model, I would still have a phone to use after my anger subsided.

Life on Mars is a show about a cop who gets hit by a car and is magically transported back to the 1970's.

This sounds interesting, but a little "high-concept". But then again, I said that about Heroes and we all know how that turned out. Harvey Keitel plays a badass cop who NYPD Detective Sam Tyler (played by Jason O'Mara) works with when he becomes a part of the 70's in cultural hotbed New York city.

Life on Mars premieres October 9.

Pushing Daisies is a dark comedy show with magic realism elements and some really funny stuff that happens. It's got a very good cast and interesting, odd stories.

Private Practice is an extension of Grey's Anatomy, as it is a spin-off series starring Kate Walsh, but perhaps more concerned with sex (if that's possible).

And Dirty Sexy Money is just sort of an escapist romp through the land of the ridiculously wealthy and the just plain ridiculous.
